Sally Rooney’s Normal People got everyone all hot and bothered when the 12-part miniseries dropped on Hulu. On Friday, fans who couldn’t wait to catch another glimpse of Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Connell (Paul Mescal), and his iconic silver chain got a little pandemic treat.
The lovers appear in two comedic shorts as part of Ireland’s RTÉ Does Comic Relief to support the Community Foundation of Ireland. In one, they meet another familiar Irishman, Fleabag‘s Hot Priest (Andrew Scott), in the confessional.
This isn’t exactly the kind of confession you usually see in movies and on TV—Scott’s priest can clearly relate to Connell’s feelings about “complicated” love. “I get it. When it’s good it feels so good. Her kisses; it’s almost like being tested,” he says to Connell. “You lie awake at night, and you just lie there wondering if this is some cosmic challenge that you’re being burdened with in order to audit your soul!” Clearly he’s had some things on his mind.
This second clip plays on the drama that Connell and Marianne seem to carry into every aspect of their relationship. They’ve aged 40 years (played by actors Pete McDonald and Deirdre O’Kane) and are having a tense conversation about…beans and toast. Why not be over-the-top about dinner? This clip seems to suggest that no matter how much they try to be apart, Marianne and Connell will always end up together—and nothing about them will ever change.

It’s great to get a little glimpse of the Normal People world again, but this tease almost makes the show’s conclusion more difficult to bear. Guess it’s time for a rewatch…
