Hillary Duff and her now-husband Matthew Koma tied the knot this past weekend during an intimate wedding at Duff’s home.

A source told People their wedding was “small” and “low-key,” and only family and close friends attended. “The ceremony started at sunset and they got married inside the house,” the source said. “When the ceremony was over, guests cheered. The reception was in a white tent in the backyard. Her sister Haylie was very involved in the wedding prep too.”

Duff and Koma quickly confirmed their marriage on Instagram; both posted a photo of the two of them in their wedding attire standing in front of a car that said “Just Married.” Duff captioned her photo “This.” while Koma captioned his “for the rest of forever… 12.21.19”

Duff also posted a clip from a video she made with Vogue, where she explained just how her wedding dress came together:

The stunning dress was custom-made by British designer Jenny Packham and featured statement shoulders, cape-like sleeves, and an open back with 100 buttons down the train. Duff also showed off her new short hair which she accessorized with a Jennifer Behr headpiece.

“I sat down with my stylist, Jessica Paster, and we went through many designers and looked at their aesthetics, and together we settled on Jenny,” Duff told Vogue. “There’s a very modern shoulder. When we were coming up with the design, it was important to me that it was striking but simple. I couldn’t imagine wearing a big fluffy dress.”

Duff also revealed a few of the hidden details of the dress: The couple’s initials and the date of the wedding were embroidered into the dress, as well as the initials of her two kids, whom Duff said were part of the wedding ceremony. (Duff and Koma have one daughter together, 1-year-old Banks, and Duff has a 7-year-old son, Luca Cruz, with her ex-husband Mike Comrie.) Packham designed a dress for Banks, which featured a pink ribbon and an oversized bow in the back.

BuzzFeed also spotted that Duff wore a clutch decorated with the wedding date, and her wedding shoes said “Wifey” on the bottom.

When it came to the design of the dress, Duff told Vogue, “Matthew is very simple, and I really wanted to honor that. I really want to feel like myself, but also how I envisioned he would see me. The end result of what we came up with, with Jenny, is exactly how I wanted him to see me. I think it’s how he would envision what I would look like as a bride. It’s really special.”

Duff got choked up as she told Vogue the story of how Koma proposed, explaining that one day while the two were living in New York, Koma took Duff on a walk and then gave her a book he wrote and illustrated all about their love story. “It was really special, and really simple, which is very much how we are and how we operate,” Duff said. She also shared that writing her vows for the wedding was the hardest thing she’s ever done.

“Marriage is such a huge commitment, and marriage is not always easy,” she told Vogue. “I think sometimes getting to remember this specific day or we said these specific things throughout the course of our lifetime, things like the dress and handwritten vows, and all of those other tokens of your love and your dedication and your promise.”
