Gabrielle Union Posts an Update on How She’s Feeling After Her ‘America’s Got Talent’ Departure

Culture

Gabrielle Union has had a pretty full Thanksgiving week. A few days ago, Variety reported that Union and her fellow new America’s Got Talent judge, Julianne Hough, had been fired from the show. Union reportedly wanted producers to report a racist comment that Jay Leno allegedly made while visiting the studio during a guest taping.

The rest of the details have not been made clear, and Union and Hough have remained fairly tight-lipped. On Wednesday, Union tweeted her short thoughts on how she was doing following the news.

She didn’t say much about what specifically happened, but she alluded enough to the incident for fans to know exactly to what she was referring. On Friday, she posted a photo of her closing her eyes in the lap of her husband, Dwayne Wade, with the following caption: “Lord, you KNOW I’m tryin… whew and breathe. Support is everything. ❤”

Union has been getting plenty of public support in the recent days. Actress Debra Messing, whose show Will and Grace is a longtime NBC favorite, responded to Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo’s tweet of support with her own tweet: “Addressing a hostile work environment is inconvenient when there is a huge money making machine that is involved,” she wrote. “It is cowardice, greed, and protection of the status quo revealed. Being ‘hands off,’ is inexcusable and reflects a laissez faire attitude toward systemic racism and sexism.”

The holiday weekend is almost over, so there will surely be more to come on this.
