Camila Cabello is publicly apologizing to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge…and they had an interesting response to it. During a recent interview on BBC 1 Radio’s Breakfast with Greg James, the Grammy nominee confessed to a bit of criminal activity while visiting Kensington Palace, Kate Middleton and Prince William’s home.

Both Cabello and James were there in October for Radio 1’s Teen Heroes celebration. The radio host said, “We were at Kensington Palace… we were about to meet William and Kate and I said, ‘[You] gotta steal something. Steal something… steal that pencil.'”

Cabello continued the story, “And I was like, ‘You triple-doggy dare me?” she said, adding, “And you can’t not do a triple-doggy dare. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my life, it’s that. So I did it.”

Next, Cabello said James alerted a palace employee to the prank. “And then,” she said, “You, to one of the palace people, called me out on it, and were like, ‘She stole a pencil!’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ And I put it in my mom’s purse, and my mom was like, ‘No, we have to give it back. We have to give back the pencil.’ And I was like, ‘No. He triple doggy dared me. I have to take the pencil.’ So I still have it.”

“I’m sorry, William, and I’m sorry, Kate,” Cabello concluded, addressing the two royals directly.

Apparently, Kate and William took notice…or at least someone on Kensington Palace’s social media team did. Kensington Palace’s official Twitter responded to the interview video with the eyes emoji.

The subtle royal interaction comes shortly after Cabello attended the American Music Awards, performing “Señorita” alongside boyfriend Shawn Mendes.
