Meghan Markle stepped out today for her first event since her candid interview with ITV made global headlines. The Duchess of Sussex is at the opening ceremony of the One Young World Summit in London. Meghan wore an aubergine midi dress with navy suede heels.
As the Sussex Royal Instagram explained, Meghan has ties to the summit from her life before she joined the royal family. In 2014, the Duchess sat on a panel about challenging gender stereotypes and bias in the media. In 2016, Meghan was a counselor for the year’s summit in Ottawa.
The Sussex Royal Instagram shared photos and footage of her in past years there and also announced that later this week, she will be hosting a “round table discussion with several of the OYW young leaders to address the issue of gender equity worldwide, and how we can all play our part to reach equality for all.”
Meghan’s appearance comes after her South Africa tour documentary aired. The Duchess spoke very candidly to reporter Tom Bradby about how the British tabloids constantly attacking her has affected her. “I have said for a long time to H, that’s what I call him, ‘It’s not enough to just survive something,’ right?” Meghan told Bradby when he asked how she was dealing with the pressure. “That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive. You’ve got to feel happy, and I think I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging, and the biggest thing I know is that I never thought this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair, and that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile. I don’t know—just take each day as it comes.”
