Miley Cyrus just a released a statement clarifying what she meant during an Instagram Live she did with Cody Simpson last night. Controversy erupted after Cyrus said “you don’t have to be gay” and seemingly slammed her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

In the Instagram Live, Cyrus said, “There are good men out there guys, don’t give up. You don’t have to be gay. There are good people with dicks out there, you just gotta find them. You gotta find a dick that’s not a dick, you know what I mean?”

She continued, “I always thought that I had to be gay because I just thought all guys were evil, but it’s not true. There are good people out there that just happen to have dicks. I’ve only ever met one and he’s on this live.”

Many on Twitter called the remark homophobic, and others pointed out that Cyrus seemed to be taking a jab at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth by suggesting Simpson is the only good man she has met.

Cyrus responded to those criticisms, writing: “I was talking shit about sucky guys, but let me be clear: YOU don’t CHOOSE your sexuality. You are born as you are. It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community I am a part of. Happy Monday!”
