Meghan Markle recently opened up about her meteoric rise to fame and the effect it’s had on her well-being during the upcoming documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. ITV journalist Tom Bradby asked the Duchess how she’s been doing during an interview, and Meghan replied honestly, even getting emotional during her answer.
“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable. So, that was made really challenging. And, then when you have a newborn, and especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So, you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed,” she said. “I guess also thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
Since the clip from the documentary went viral on Twitter, many people have expressed their support for Meghan online, even starting the hashtag, #WeLoveYouMeghan.
Meghan has been a lightning rod for criticism since she started dating Prince Harry, who has become more vocal recently in his defense of his wife, telling the press that their treatment of her reminds him of how his mother, Princess Diana, was treated decades ago.
“Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son,” he said in a statement earlier this month when announcing that the couple is pursuing legal action against certain British tabloids . “Though this action may not be the safe one, it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
