As you might be able to guess, there are spoilers for The Politician ahead!

Ryan Murphy’s latest dark comedy is out on Netflix and ready to be binged. If you’ve already buzzed through the eight episodes of season 1—and decompressed from all the drama—you probably have one important question…

Will there be a season 2?

And the answer, thankfully, is yes! We know for a fact that a second season is coming since Netflix ordered two seasons of the show from the very beginning. Murphy, the show’s creator, currently has a five-year $300 million deal with the streaming service, and The Politician is the first series to come from said deal. As of now, it’s unclear when season 2 will drop.

What will season 2 be about?

Season 1’s finale gave away this answer. While the first season followed Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) and his quest to become student council president, the second season will see him tackle an even bigger race to become a New York state senator. Payton will be going up against politician Dede Standish (Judith Light) and her chief of staff, Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler).

It’s been reported that the show will be structured as an anthology and each season will show Payton in a new election; according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was initially envisioned to have five seasons, ending with Payton’s run for president.

Who will be in season 2?

As season 1’s finale suggests, most of our favorite characters from the first season will continue into the second. There’s Payton, of course, but also his best friends and confidants McAfee (Laura Dreyfuss) and James (Theo Germaine), plus his rivals turned friends, Astrid (Lucy Boynton) and Skye (Rahne Jones).

So, are Payton and Alice together again?

Season 1’s finale also saw the return of Payton’s high school sweetheart, Alice (Julia Schlaepfer). She literally ran away from her own wedding, locking guests inside a church, in order to speed off to New York City to support Payton. While she does say she wants to put the wedding “on hold,” the way she saunters up to Payton’s side at the end of his campaign speech leaves us to believe there will be some romance in the future.
